National Traffic Management System - NTMS

A project being implemented by NIDCO on behalf of the Ministry of Works and Transport. The National Traffic Management System is a programme that will monitor and control traffic flow along the East-West corridor from Port of Spain (Ana street, Wrightson Road) to East of the Uriah Butler Highway (Prince Charles Avenue).

 

This pilot project will identify congestion along the East- West corridor and manage incidents and traffic flow by circulating instantaneous information to motorists along the proposed route. The NTMS has the potential for nationwide deployment with benefits from an efficient traffic motoring and control at intersections from a centralized control room. Some of the benefits are:

  • Efficient management and control of traffic along the East West corridor
  • Alleviation of traffic congestion during peak hours
  • Instantaneous detection of accidents or other incidents along the proposed route
  • Instant messaging to motorists on road conditions and possible hindrances to traffic floe
  • Increased productivity due to less time spent in traffic
  • Modernization of traffic control system through the adoption of stat of the art technology with real time news feed.
