Making transport fast and frequent
Project Status: ON-TRACK
- A Design-Build-Operate-Maintain (DBOM) contract was signed between the Ministry of Works and Transport, NIDCO, & TriniTrain Consortium in April 2008.
- TriniTrain Consortium comprises three prominent firms in the Rapid Rail industry: Bouygues Travaux Publics S.A., Alstom Transport S.A., & RATP Développement S.A.
- Phase 1 of the DBOM contract is currently underway and is scheduled for completion in 2010. This phase includes data collection, route selection and preliminary design.
- Phase 2 of the DBOM contract involves design and construction.
- Phase 3 of the DBOM contract includes operations and maintenance.
The procurement method used to award the DBOM contract was based on an innovative Qualifications Based Selection process. The procedure attracted international attention and allowed NIDCO to select the most competent suppliers. The DBOM Contract will promote:
- transparency in performance, price and delivery
- total participation and commitment of key personnel
- timely delivery and risk minimization
- achievement of project goals on a best value basis

TRRTS Service:
- will run along the East-West and North-South corridors
- will include 10 train stations along the proposed routes
- during peak periods will be at intervals of five and 10 minutes
- during off-peak periods will be at 15-minute intervals
TRRTS Technical / Operational Design Elements:
- will comprise two express train lines with a total length of approximately 105 km
- will operate on a fully grade separated, fixed trackway
- will operate on an aerial structure (in Port of Spain & environs)
- will operate on a grade adjacent to or within the median of major roadways (outside of Port of Spain & environs)
