Unclogging traffic in all directions

  • “Push Technology” has been the hallmark of the CRH/UBH Interchange construction process. The first “push” occurred on February 18th 2008, extending the elevated structure across the eastbound lane of the CR Hwy. with no disruption to traffic below.
  • Subsequent “pushes” have occurred since February and continued till completion.
  • The CRH/UBH Interchange is completed. It is the country’s highest bridge structure (18 metres) and carries two lanes of traffic with full shoulders.
  • The contractor is VINCI Construction Grands Project from France. The main local subcontractors and suppliers are Junior Sammy Limited, Prestcon Ltd, Readymix Limited, Caroni Reber Limited, Bhagwansingh’s Limited and   Paramount Limited.

Phase 1 (Completed)

Included the construction of the South-West Speed Ramp, which has alleviated traffic  congestion at the CRH/UBH intersection and now allows vehicles to flow north of the Uriah Butler Hwy.

Phase 2 (Completed)

Features an 18-metre (height) & 600-metre (length) bridge over the CRH/UBH, which runs from the San Juan River Bridge to Grand Bazaar separating the east-west and north-bound sections of the Interchange. Ttraffic at the CRH/UBH intersection has been reduced by a signifiacnt amount, because the overpass currently absorbs a major portion of traffic headed to South Trinidad.

Also includes a west to south ramp, a new diamond interchange, & service roads at the Bamboo Intersection.

Phase 3(Completed)

Completes the CRH/UBH Interchange with a slightly realigned Uriah Butler Highway over the Churchill Roosevelt Hwy. It also includes a number of service roads for local traffic.
